ICT gets new registrar
Government in consultation with the Supreme Court has transferred International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Registrar Md Shahidul Alam Jhinuk to Sunamganj as district and sessions judge.
Md Selim Miah, judge of Chandpur Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal has been transferred to take the place of Jhinuk, through the same notice signed by deputy secretary Mahbubar Rahman Sarker dated July 23.
Jhinuk was observing his duty as the ICT registrar since his posting here on June 14, 2015. Government on March 25, 2010, formed International Crimes Tribunal under the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973 (act no. XIX of 1973) to try and punish people those committed crimes against humanity during War of Liberation.
Speaker returns home
Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s (CPA) executive committee Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury yesterday returned home from Vietnam.
She had led a five-member delegation of the Jatiya Sangsad during the five-day visit. Dr Shirin had separate bilateral meetings with President of Vietnam National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang and Secretary General of Vietnam Communist Party Nguen Phu Trong during the visit.
2 held with huge explosives
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two people along with a huge amount of high explosive materials from Jaintapur in the district on Tuesday.
A team of RAB-9 held the duo with 3.9 kilograms of high explosive power gel and 30 electric detonators, according to a text message sent by the elite force yesterday morning. The other details on the arrest would be disclosed at a press briefing later in the day.
Bulu gets bail in 3 cases
The High Court on Monday granted interim bail for six months to BNP Vice-chairman Barkatullah Bulu in three sabotage cases filed with Mirpur Police Station in the capital.
An HC bench comprising Justice M Rezaul Haque and Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar passed the order following bail petitions. Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Barrister Shakib Mahbub argued for Bulu.
Bulu earlier got bail in 18 more cases from the HC, said Shakib Mahbub while talking to reporters.
