Bangladesh Army kept their superiority in the 13th National Summer Athletics Championship with winning 18 gold, 17 silver and 13 bronze while Bangladesh Navy became second with winning 12 gold, 11 silver and 19 bronze medals.
Country’s fastest man Mesbah Ahmed and fastest woman Shirin Akhter retained their titles effortlessly winning the 100m sprint respectively.
“I am satisfied with this timing, there is no option but to practice with international level to do better result, hand timing practice cannot improve as much as with the electronic timing practice you can,” said Mesbah Ahmed, successive six times fastest man of Bangladesh.
Mesbah Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy, who finished first the 100 meters sprint yesterday six times in a row, expressed his dissatisfaction after completing the 100 meters with clocking 10:80 seconds.
Shirin Akhter, also the runner of the Bangladesh Navy became the fastest women in the Summer meet when she finished on 12:30 seconds while her best timing was 11:99 seconds.
Shirin Akhter was a bit pleased with her timing, as she said, “It is something tough to run against the wind, so I am a bit happy with this timing.”
Shirin is very much hopeful and has high expectation to win gold in the SA Games, when she said, “Actually there is nothing impossible, if you have determination and continue endeavor, I will have to do, I have that belief, I have taken permission from the DG of the BKSP to continue my practice under Kafi sir (Abdullah Hel Kafi, coach of BKSP) round the year, if I could do it, obviously my dream will come true.”
Mesbah, who will run in the World Athletics Championship in London in August said, “It’s good feelings to have the honour of fastest man for six times.
Both the fastest man and women Mesbah and Shirin are very unhappy with the track condition, as they said that it is old and very slow, it is no possible to develop your form with practicing in this track.
Meanwhile the 13th NRB Commercial Bank National Athletics Championship concluded yesterday with 500 athletes including officials from across the country participated in the two-day meet at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Besides the Bangladesh Army and Navy, who won a total of 48 and 33 medals, Bangladesh Jail stood third with winning 11 medals (four gold, three silver and four bronze medals).
Al Amin of Bangladesh Army was adjudged the best men’s athletes, who won the gold in the 1500 metres and 5000 metres and 800 meters bronze.
Sumi Akhter of Bangladesh Army won the prize of the best women athletes when she won gold medals in the 800, 1500 and 3000 meters race silver in the 400 metres.
