The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appears to be unfazed still in the wake of the cancellation of Australia’s tour in Bangladesh in next September. The board even refused to think further about the future of the series even though the impasse between the Australian players and its board hit in such low that there is slim possibility to remove this very soon.
The BCB however kept trust on its Aussie counterpart and made it clear they are yet to take any alternative option in case of the series postponement.
“If you go through the FTP, you will clearly understand who is free and who is busy at the moment. There is tight schedule for every team indeed,” said BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
“At the moment we can’t make any comment on the series (Whether Australia will come or not). What I can say is that we are waiting to host Australia.”
The CEO’s comment came at the moment when it was reported in the international media that the CA told BCB to be ready about the postponement of the tour. Chwodhury refused the matter, saying that the CA informs that the representatives would come to Bangladesh to have a security visit on July 25.
“I don’t know what they wrote. Concerned people from CA called me over phone this morning and said they would come here on July 25 for a security visit. Their representatives in fact were in Dhaka during England’s visit in Bangladesh. They have got the idea about the security. They will come here now just to see the facilities and if they have any idea they could incorporate it.”
Bangladesh was also scheduled to play against Pakistan at home, which was postponed for indefinitely. Now the future of two-match Test series against Australia, which was a long issue, is also in limbo.
If Australia finally withdraws the series, Bangladesh would have no home series in this year. They will visit South Africa for a full series in September after which the fifth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) would roll into the ground.
The stalemate of Australian cricket seemed to come to an end after Australia's cricketers have offered to commit around A$30 million to the game's lower levels and accept Cricket Australia's revenue forecasts for the next five years under a compromise proposal that would serve to end a damaging pay war.
However the "terms sheet" brought to negotiations on Wednesday to provide a basis for the next collective agreement between the board and the Australian Cricketers Association is now in doubt after CA on Thursday night sent through a revised MoU clause that removed all references to revenue sharing, International media reported. Thereafter the situation got worsened.
Asked how Bangladesh would react if Australia send second string team, Chowdhury refused to make any comment.
“There is no scope to make comment since the Cricket Australia doesn’t give any negative impression as of now. I strongly believe a full strength Australian team will visit Bangladesh. If such situation arrives we’ll take decision considering the circumstances.”
