Buriganga bridge transport strike called off

The transport owners and workers, who were demonstrating on both sides of Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge protesting toll hike for using it, yesterday called off their strike. Talking to The Independent over phone at around 12:15AM, State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid Bipu, confirmed it. Replying to a question, he said after consulting with government’s high-ups, especially with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, initiatives have been taken to resolve the issue permanently. Osman Gani, president of Dhaka District Truck Owners’ Association, however, said if their demand is not realised they will wage tougher movement after August 10.
