Govt embarks on extensive work to stop river erosion
Blocks and geo bags are ready and the work is going faster, says minister

Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud yesterday said the present government has embarked on extensive work to stop river erosion, reports BSS.
In the past, he said, many families had been rendered homeless by river erosion, but the situation has now changed due to river training by the government as its capacity to tackle river erosion has increased. The minister was addressing as the chief guest a meeting while visiting river erosion affected areas at Hilsha union under sadar upazila of the district.
There was a time when we had to suffer due to frequent natural disasters. Now the people are living on the river banks permanently following safety measures taken by the government, Anisul Islam said.
He said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has brought confidence among the people that we can improve our life and living. People around the world today believe that Bangladesh is moving ahead.
The minister said the government is ready to give necessary fund to stop river erosion. Efforts are being made to complete the river training before the stipulated time. Blocks and geo bags are ready and the work is going faster to stop erosion.
State Minister for Water Resources Md. Nazrul Islam, Water Development Boards Director General Mahfuzur Rahman, District Awami League Joint General Secretary Jahirul Islam Nakib and Sadar Upazila Awami League Secretary Nazrul Islam Goldar also addressed the meeting with President of Hilsha Union Awami League Sarwar Master in the chair.
