Construction work of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge is going on in full swing with the completion of 44.0 per cent work of the much-awaited mega bridge till end of June, official said.
With this steady progress, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader reaffirmed that the country’s largest bridge on the mighty river Padma would be completed by 2018, reports BSS.
“The construction work of the bridge will be completed in time due to dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her effective policy measures,” he said.
Terming the progress in the construction work ‘satisfactory’, the minister, also the general secretary of the country’s largest political party, Awami League, said the bridge would help to improve living standard of nearly 30 million people of the southwest region.
It would also facilitate regional trade, promote industrial and commercial activities and increase economic and employment opportunities, he said.
Project Director of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge M Shafiqul Islam told the news agency that the construction of the approach road and the service areas was completed in June and the progress for the main bridge construction was 40.0 per cent and river training was 32.5 per cent.
According to the bridge project, a total 41 spans will be set up on the bridge and 3.5 kilometre viaduct would be constructed in the 6.15km-long bridge between Mawa of Munshiganj and Jajira of Shariatpur.
