Minhaz stuns GM Zia in 3rd round

IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin stunned GM Ziaur Rahman in a 3rd round game of the Category ‘A’ in the Saif Powertec 2nd International Rating Chess Tournament at Chess Federation hall-room and NSC Tower auditorium lounge on Monday.

Minhaz played with black pieces and won against GM Zia. IM Minhaz is now took a solo lead in the points table with maximum 3 points in A Category. GM Mollah Abdullah Al Rakib, GM Enamul Hossain Razib, IM Abu Sufian Shakil, FM Kh. Aminul Islam and FM Mohamad Fahad Rahman were sharing second  position with 2.5 points each. Twenty three players including WIM Rani Hamid, WFM Sharmin Sultana Shirin, Shahidul Islam, Abdul Momin, Md. Shariatullah, Sonkalan Bharati of India, Feroz Ahmed, Amir Hossain, Moniruzzaman Moni, Matiur Rahman Mamun, Tipu Sultan, Mohammad Aminul Islam and Mustakim-Ul Haque of Ireland were sharing lead in the points table with maximum 3 points each after 3rd round in Category ‘B’.

GM Rakib drew with GM Razib, IM Shakil beat Mohammad Shamim, FM Fahad drew with Showkat Hossain Pollab, FM Amin beat Nayan Kumar Mohanto, S M Sharon drew with FM Md. Taibur Rahman, FM Mehdi Hasan beat Nayem Haque in the third round.
