AFC qualifiers begin today in Palestine
Sports Reporter

Bangladesh National Under-23 will begin their AFC age group qualifying mission from today with taking on Jordan, one of the top level teams in Asian football at Dura Stadium, Hebron, Palestine.

Bangladesh national football have a very shocking experience against Jordan when they conceded 12 goals in the World Cup qualifying matches in home (4-0) and at Jordan (8-0) on September 8, 2015 and March 24, 2016 respectively.

Bangladesh will play their second and last match of Group E on July 19 and 21 against Talisman and the host Palestine respectively.

It would be the first assignment for the newly appointed coach Andrew Ord when the English borne Australian made his debut with some bitter experiences. The team on their way to Palestine suffered 0-1 defeat at the hands of Nepal in their first preparation match and went down to high profile Qatar team by 0-3.

But the coach thought the practice matches in Nepal and Doha were very much vital and as well helpful for the team before taking the strong teams like Jordan, Palestine and Tajikistan. Bangladesh had to travel 12 hours to reach Palestine from Jordan by road went hey had also some hassles at the immigration of Israel border.

However, according to Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) coach Andrew thinks his team already gained stamina to play at least 70 minutes and hopefully will be able to play in the game full 90 minutes.

“We have reached a point where the majority of the players have played at least 70 minutes in a game so they should be ready to go to the next level and play for 90 minutes.”

About the first match against Jordan Andrew wants to take the advantage of over confidents and pressure of Jordan team, who are the top favorites in the Group E.

Andrew said, “The first match of a tournament is always important and there will be pressure on Jordan to qualify as group favorites so maybe they will be complacent or nervous and we can take advantage.”

Andrew, who has already selected his starting lineup, said, “I have finalized my starting XI but of course as the coach I cannot share my selection or formation with you as that is hopefully going to work to our advantage and surprise Jordan. We have worked on being able to press on the pitch but due to our physical state that is not going to be possible for the full match so we also have worked on being compact and tight defensively so we can play two different ways during the match.”
