2 ‘criminals’ killed in Khulna ‘gunfight’

KHULNA: Two suspected criminals were killed in a reported gunfight with police in No 5 Ghat area of the city early Monday, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Al Mahmud, 25, and Babu alias Guddu Babu, 35.

Police arrested Guddu several days ago. Following his information, a team of police along with Guddu conducted a drive in the city's Probhati Railway Government Primary School area around 5:30 am while a gang of criminal was planning to carry out sabotage, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the criminals fired gunshots. The police personnel also retaliated, triggering the gunfight, leaving two dead on the spot.

Police also recovered three rounds of bullets and four sharp weapons.

They are the accused in six cases including murder.

Besides, a suspected criminal was injured in a gunfight with police in Sonadanga area of the city.

The injured is Yasir Arafat, accused in seven cases including murder and robbery.
