Chittagong City Corporation on Tuesday received a government order to excavate a canal from Bahaddarhat to Karnaphuli River. A total of Tk 326.8481 crore will be spent to excavate the 2.2 kilometre canal. The project got approval in the meeting of Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) on June 24, 2014. After approval of ECNEC, the file was sent to concerned ministries for further permission, getting permission from different ministries the CCC authority got the official order formally after a year. When contacted, Monirul Huda, executive engineer (Planning) of CCC said they received the government order. He said now there is no problem to execute the work. With the implementation of the project the water congestion of the Bahaddarhat, Bakalia areas will be removed in a great extent, hoped Monirul Huda. In the project government will fund Tk 245.1361crore and rest of Tk81.71 crore will be maintained from the own fund of Chittagong City Corporation. A total of Tk 224 crore will be spent for land acquisition, said CCC sources. The time span of the project estimated July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2017.
