RAJSHAHI: Local civil and police administrations are determined to stop plying of three-wheelers and other non-mechanised vehicles on highways and bypasses in region based on the government decision in this regard, reports BSS. The government has taken the decision after considering everything and it is strict in its decision about banning plying of three wheelers like CNG-run auto-rickshaw on highways. Besides, the government will not change its earlier decision due to the movement of the auto-rickshaw operators. The government had taken a timely decision to ban three-wheelers from the highways because those were one of the major causes of road accidents there.
The observations came at a view-sharing meeting held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner here Tuesday afternoon. Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and district administration jointly organised the meeting participated by the district and upazila level officials concerned, police officials, journalists and representatives of CNG and motor labourers associations. Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed and Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Tanveer Haider Chowdhury addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner, in the chair. The chief guest said: "The three-wheelers can run on other roads. The government will be implementing the ban on three-wheelers plying the national highways. There are no chances of taking a step back." He added a map marking the stretches where the ban was applicable in each district was available on their website.
"We have instructed all deputy commissioners and members of law enforcement agencies in the division to let the owners and workers know that the ban will be imposed on only the restricted highways. He continued that three-wheelers can play on all other roads and that the people on the ground welcomed the government move. Divisional Commissioner Helaluddin said all the field lssevel officials concerned should work together for successful enforcement of the government decision to save many lives from the road mishaps.
