A Dhaka court yesterday placed five people on remand of different terms in connection with the gang rape of a college girl in Jatrabari in the capital on Tuesday, reports UNB. Those who were remanded are Saiful Islam Babu, Faisal, Shafayet, Robin and Sumi. All of them are students of Salimullah College. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mollah Saiful Islam placed Babu, Faisal, Shafayet and Robin on a three-day remand while Sumi on a one-day one when sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station Kazi Shahiduzzaman produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand in the case filed connection with the incident.
According to the case statement, the college girl was gang-raped by some miscreants at Jatrabari on Tuesday noon. SI Abdullah Biswas said the 20-year-old girl along with her boyfriend came to the house of one of the acquaintances of the boy at Dakkhin Kajla near Bishwa Road Masjid at noon from Sonargaon of Narayanganj district.
A group of 7-8 local miscreants stormed into the house at about 2:30pm on Tuesday and confined the boy to a room. They later violated the girl in turns.
On information, police rushed in and took the girl to the One-stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Later, a team of police, led by SI Abdullah Biswas, arrested three people from Jatrabari area on Tuesday evening in connection with the incident. Police also took a woman, tenant of the house where the duo came, to the police station for interrogation.
