Schoolgirl raped
A schoolgirl was allegedly raped by a neighbour at her home in the capitals Nayanagar area on Monday, police said yesterday.
The incident was disclosed when police sent the victim to the One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for a medical test after her family lodged a case around 9pm on Tuesday.
Inspector Nurul Mostakin, officer-in-charge of Bhatara Police Station, said the mother of the victim reported that a neighbour, Al Amin, raped her 12-year-old daughter on Sunday.
Al Amin, 22, who works as a messenger at a private firm in the city, lives next door to the familys tin-shed house in the area. During the assault, the mother, who works as a maid, was away at her work place.
Sub-inspector Mehedi Hasan, investigation officer of the case, meanwhile, said Al Amin sexually assaulted the girl with a promise to marry her. Before the incident, the alleged rapist had developed a friendship with the girl, a student of class-4, according to the case statement.
We are trying to arrest him as soon as possible, Mehedi said. Meanwhile, Dr Bilkis Akter, coordinator of OCC, said evidence of rape was found after a preliminary examination of the girl.
