Sports Reporter

The movements of  intending candidates for the upcoming election of Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) have already started. The election of BHF would be held after the completion of tenure of the incumbent committee, Most Likely within next few weeks.

The probable candidates have already began their ground works at few days ago and one of the general secretary candidates, Rashid Shikder of Usha Krira Chakra has already organised an open gathering with some of the hockey organizers in a hotel in the city on Thursday.

The tenure of the current committee will be ended on July 30 and if everything will go in right direction, the election will take place on August 10, but National Sports Council (NSC) is yet to announce the election date or the schedule.

In fact there are huge talking about the most coveted post of general secretary. Two former general secretaries Khaza Rahmat Ullah of Abahani Limited and Sajed AA Adel of Mohammedan along with Abdur Rashid Shikder are showing their keen interest to contest in the polls for the general secretary post.

Meanwhile, Khaza Rahmat Ullah who was general secretary of the previous committee but after huge protest from different clubs and players he had quit from the post before nominating as  the vice-president of the running committee.

However, the hockey observers predicted that there would be a hard contest between two contenders, Khaza Rahmat Ullah and Abdur Rashid Shikder. Though Rahmat Ullah yet to announce his candidature formally,  Rashid Shikder held a gathering of the councillors on Thursday where he openly announced his candidature and seek their (councillors) support.

Rashid Shikder, when talking to this correspondent yesterday about the gathering said that his main object was to announce his candidature to the organizers and councilors and to seek their support.

Shikder, who has been in the chair of the general secretary of the Usha Krira Chakra for 16 years at a stretch, explained his eligibility and he is enough maturity and  experiences  to contest the post of general secretary of the BHF.

Shikder said, “Actually, it is not my aim to contest with some body or Rahmat Bhai (Khaza Rahamt Ullah) but to make BHF more active.”

“The way BHF is going on, it is not proper for the development of hockey. We should involve more people, who are related with hockey,” said Shikder.

Khaza Rahmat Ullah, also talked to The Independent yesterday said, “Yes, I had the green signal from my club (Abahani Limited) to contest for the post of general secretary. But our officials are in abroad after their return home, it would be officially announced.”
