Man ‘punched to death’

Sherpur: A man was punched to death allegedly by his relative at Batkuchi village in Nalitabari over a family feud on Thursday night, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Sadir Ali, 57, an inhabitant of the village.

Police and family sources said Hossain Ali, son of Sadir Ali of Batkuchi village, got married Asma Begum, daughter of Abed Ali of Dalukona village, three years back, and the couple has a one-year-old boy.

Md Najrul Islam, a sub-inspector at Nalitabari police station, said three people—Abed, his wife Mahfuja Begum and their daughter Asma Begum—were detained in this connection.

The SI said the trouble began when Hossain decided to move to Dhaka with his family to look for a job, but Abed asked him not to take his daughter to Dhaka.

Over the issue, a quarrel broke out between the two families on Thursday night. At one stage, Abed punched Sadir, leaving him unconscious.

Sadir was taken to Nalitabari upazila health complex where duty doctors declared him dead.A process was underway to file a case in this connection.
