Current budget to take country forward, Raushan tells JS

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Begum Raushan Ershad yesterday described the national budget for the fiscal year 2017-18 as a mega fiscal plan and said this would help the government taking forward the country, reports BSS.

"The current national budget is the best and biggest budget of the country ....the budget has fulfilled the demand of the people by postponing the implementation of 15 per cent value added tax (VAT). Obviously, it is a good side of the budget," Raushan Ershad said while delivering her valedictory speech to the 16th session (budget session) of the 10th parliament.

The opposition leader asked the government to target big businessmen instead of tiny ones for implementing the VAT law to overcome the revenue deficit.

Expressing deep concern over sufferings of six lakh flood affected people in country's 13 districts, Raushan asked the government to remain vigilant so that the distress people can get adequate relief during this time.

Regarding the outbreak of 'chikungunya', Begum Ershad urged the health minister and two Dhaka city corporation mayors for taking necessary steps to resist the disease.

Talking about food adulteration, the opposition leader urged the government to take strict measures for checking the malpractice. "The government particularly the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should have to take 'tough' measures for survival of the new generation from the acute impact of the food adulteration, " she added.

About employment crisis, the opposition leader said the government should consider increasing the entry age-limit in public service as a huge number of youths could get opportunity after completing their education.
