Schoolteacher’s body recovered
NATORE: Police recovered the body of a primary schoolteacher from South Bargacha area under Natore Sadar upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Nawshin Khandaker Tama, 25, daughter of Advocate Mosarraf Hossain of the same area. Tama was the Assistant Teacher of Mallickhati Government Primary School.
Being informed, a team of police from Natore Thana rushed to the spot and recovered the hanging body from ceiling fan in her living room around 1pm.
The body was, later, sent to Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police found a suicidal note from the deceased room, said Officer-in-Charge of Natore Thana Sikder Md. Mashiur Rahman.
Rapist gets life term in Jessore

A court here on Wednesday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for violating a minor child.
The convict Mohsin, son of Abdur Rahman is a resident of Jhumjhumpur, on the outskirts of the district town.
The court also fined the convict Tk one lakh, in default, to suffer three years more in rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the convict violated a 10-year-old girl while she went to the Forest Department Office premises on March 7, 2006.
A case was filed against Mohsin on April 30, 2006. Police later submitted chargesheet against him.
After examining records and witnesses, Women and Child Repression Prevention Judge Amit Kumar Dey handed down the verdict.
Man held with explosive substance in C’nawabganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested a man along with 19 kilograms of explosive substance from Shibirer Haat in Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-5 led by its commanding officer Enamul Karim conducted a drive in the area around 8:30 pm and arrested Mithun, 25, son of Shariful Islam of Surjyanarayanpur village, along with the explosive substance.
A case was filed with Sadar Police Station.
35,651 families brought under power network in Bhola
BHOLA: About 35,651 families of six upazila of the district have been brought under rural electrification network by Bhola Palli Bidyut Samity (BPBS) last fiscal year (2016-17), reports BSS.
BPBS brought an area of 806.91 kilometres under rural electrification network in the six upazilas spending about Taka 80.70 crore said Kefaet Ullah, general manager of BPBS. The government took initiatives to solve the country’s power crisis through setting up new power plants, he said.
He also said “we are working through a big plan to bring all the upazilas of the district under 100 percent rural electrification network.”
Woman killed in road accident
NATORE: A woman was killed and 12 others injured as a bus collided head-on with a truck near Maniqpur Kalabagan area under Baraigram upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Shirina Khatun, 50, wife of Abdus Sattar, an inhabitant of Shahgola village under Raninagar upazila of Naogaon.
Officer-in-Charge of Bonpara Highway Police Station GM Shamsunnur said a Sirajganj-bound bus collided head-on with a Natore-bound sugar-laden truck on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul Highway in the area at about 12:30 pm, leaving bus passenger Shirina dead on the spot.
A team of Natore Fire Service Station rescued at least 12 injured persons and admitted them to nearby hospitals.
2 children drown in Magura
Magura: Two children drowned in a pond at Chakuria village in Mohammadpur upazila on Wednesday, reports UNB.
Quoting family sources, police said Musa, 5, son of Habibullah Mia, and Hafizur, 4, son of Hashem Ali of the village went out of the house for playing.
As the children could not return home for long time, they searched for them and found them floating in a pond near their house.
An unnatural death case was filed.
7 shops gutted in Magura fire
Magura: At least seven shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at a local bazar of Mohammadpur upazila sadar of the district early yesterday, reports UNB.
Magura fire service officer Moniruzzaman said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop around 3:00 am and soon engulfed the adjoining shops.
Five people were injured when they tried to put out the fire.
On information, fire fighters rushed in and brought the blaze under control. The goods worth about Tk 20 lakh were gutted in the fire. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Magura visited the spot.
Farmers get training in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR: Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) under National Agriculture Technology Training Project (NATP) provided training to 1,400 farmers in the district recently, reports BSS.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) official said the training for the common interest group (CIG) comprising with 30 farmers was formed.
The official said 450 farmers in Jamalpur sadar upazila, 300 farmers in Bakshiganj, 390 farmers in Islampur, 300 farmers in Dewanganj, 360 farmers in Melandaha, 300 farmers in Madarganj and 300 farmers in Sarishabari received one day training in last June this year.
