Doctors are yet to diagnose the ailment of 12-year-old Mukta, who was admitted to the burns unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on July 10.
Though they have confirmed that Mukta is not suffering from the tree-man disease, it is thought that she has contracted a rare skin disease, they say.
Talking to The Independent, Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of the Burn & Plastic Surgery Unit of the DMCH, said they were yet to diagnose Mukta’s disease. “It may be a case of dermal vascular malformation, or lymphatic malformation, or neurofibromatosis, or congenital hyperkeratosis,” he added.
The child had been neglected for about eight years despite the signs of a disease, he said.
“It can’t be cured overnight. Had the patient been admitted earlier, it would have been better for her,” he added.
The doctor also said that it might take two weeks to get Mukta ready for operation.
“We’ll go for surgery after she becomes physically fit because she may need four to five operations,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mukta’s father, Ibrahim Miah, has sought everyone’s blessings for her daughter’s recovery.
