Technical faults, negligence main reasons: Probe

The committee formed to investigate the boiler explosion at a readymade garment (RMG) factory at Nayarapara in Gazipur on July 3 identified negligence of the authorities and technical faults as the reasons behind the blast, reports UNB.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Dewan Md Humayun Kabir disclosed the report at a press conference at Bhawal Conference room of the Gazipur deputy commissioner's office yesterday.

The committee identified five technical faults and two administrative reasons behind the accident.

It also placed 20 recommendations to ensure safe working environment in the factories.

Earlier on July 3, 13 workers were killed and around 50 people injured in the boiler explosion at readymade garments factory Multi Fabs Limited in Nayapara area of Gazipur city.

Later, the district administration formed an eight-member probe committee led by Additional District Magistrate Mohammed Rahenul Islam to investigate the incident.

Members of police, fire service and industrial police were included in the committee. The probe body was asked to submit the report within seven working days.
