Irfan Sukkur stroked a commanding, unbeaten century as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)-High Performance (HP) Team put on 312 for six declared against the Northern Territory Invitational XI on the close of the first day of the three-day match at the MCG-1, Darwin, yesterday.
Opted to bat, Bangladesh captain Liton Kumar Das chose to bat first after winning the toss on Darwin deck and made an invaluable 44-run with Mehedi Maruf for the opening stand. Though Liton fell for 13 Maruf attempted to steady the innings but wickets were tumbling on the other end.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy (19) and Nazmul Hossain Shanto (13) walked back to the pavilion cheaply after Liton. Maruf then stitched together 64 runs with Yasir Ali Chowdhury for the fifth wicket stand, which gave the solid platform. But Maruf finally missed his century for just 13 runs. He clattered a patient 87 off 138, laced with six fours and two sixes before being dismissed.
After losing Yasir Ali (27), Irfan Sukkur pulled together a couple of successful partnerships including 89 runs with Mohammad Saifuddin (26) and 54 runs with Tanvir Haider (17) en rout to his unbeaten 104. Irfan’s brilliant 104 off 139 that embellished with 15 fours that set the decent total and then the visiting side declared their innings for 312-6.
