Dhaka will host the 45th council of foreign ministers of the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) next year, a foreign ministry press release said yesterday.
The decision was taken at the 44th council of foreign ministers (CFM) of OIC members in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Bangladesh's proposal to host this high-profile conference after nearly three decades and a half received full support from member states.
“This came as the recognition of Bangladesh’s active and constructive role and growing importance in the OIC,” the release said.
It added that Bangladesh will get the opportunity to highlight its success stories in a number of areas, which the country is willing to share with OIC member states to the benefit of the Ummah.
Foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali, who is leading the Bangladesh delegation at the 44th council, thanked OIC member states for reposing confidence in the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The council was inaugurated by the Cote d’Ivorian President, Alassane Ouatara, on Monday.
With this, the release said that Bangladesh has become part of the OIC Troika and an influential member of the important eight-member OIC executive committee for the next three years.
