Prime Minister seeks Spanish investment in economic zones

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday sought Spanish investment in Bangladesh's economic zones to increase economic cooperation between the two countries, reports UNB.

She made the call when Spanish Ambassador in Dhaka Alvaro de Salas Gimenez de Azcarate met her at her office.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.Ihsanul said the Prime Minister told the Spanish envoy that Bangladesh is establishing 100 economic zones across the country for a balanced economic development.

She put importance on strengthening the economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Spain.

Expressing satisfaction over the excellent relations between the two countries, Sheikh Hasina said Spain was very much supportive to Bangladesh when Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was rebuilding it after its independence.

Alvaro de Salas Gimenez informed the Prime Minister that Spain has translated Bangabandhu's 'Unfinished Memoirs' into Spanish language and the first edition of the book will be published soon.

He also said the book will be sent to libraries across the world where Spanish-speaking people live. "It's the history of the family (of Bangabandhu) and the history of Bangladesh. We're proud that we've translated the book," he said.

Hasina also said the aim of her life is to fulfill Father of the Nation's vision and free the country from poverty and hunger.

Terming the relations between the two countries good, the Spanish ambassador said they want to take the ties to a new height.

He mentioned that there is no bilateral problem between these two friendly countries.

Mentioning that there are trade activities between Bangladesh and Spain, he underscored the need for strengthening relations between the chambers of commerce of the two countries.

Highly appreciating the leadership of Sheikh Hasina in developing the country, Alvaro de Salas Gimenez said, "You're an example for the whole world."

He also expressed the desire to open a consulate of his country in Chittagong.

Referring to his visit to Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi-32, the Spanish envoy said he was touched by it.

PMO Secretary Suraiya Begum was present.
