A court in Dhaka on Wednesday placed the prime accused, Liton Mondal, on a two-day remand in a case filed over the alleged gang-rape of two girls in Savar, reports UNB.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Atikul Islam passed the order after Inspector (operations) of Savar Police Station Shahid Sarwardi, also investigating officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking a seven-day remand.
Earlier, on Tuesday, police arrested Liton from Manikganj district.
On July 6, Liton called the two girls over phone in Savar from Gazipur promising to give them opportunity of modeling and he along with his associates confined them to a room on the first floor of a six-storey building in Sobhanbagh in Savar municipality and raped them in turns. Hearing screams of the victims, locals and a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police rushed in and rescued the two girls on July 7 morning.
