The students of Institute of Education and Research (IER) of Chittagong University yesterday staged a demonstration in front of IER building demanding its basic facilities.

In this demonstration around 250 students of the institute participated at around 12pm with their demands. Their demands are: setting up a common room, a canteen, toilets, a seminar room, a computer lab and a science lab. This time they boycooted their classes for the day.

Himel, a 4th year student of IER said that there are widespread problems in our Institute. If we want to arrange any seminar, we have to depend on Chittagong University laboratory school and college seminar room which is jointly setup. Immediately we need a separate seminar room for study.

“For female students we need a common room, very soon we need some toilets. It is shameful that there were only two toilets for male and female students and teachers but its all time remain locked,” added Himel.

Minhaz, also a student of IER said, “We have some subjects which are related with computer science. For that we need a computer lab as soon as possible.

This time the demonstrators said, “If the authorities do not take any step about these issues, we will arrange a human chain Sunday next.

When contacted with Kiran Chandra Dev, director of Institute of education and research he admits and said, “We have some problems in our institute. Actually these problems create when the authorities allocated our ground floor for Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) Chittagong University brunch. Already we talked to the university authorities about these issues.”

Professor Dr Kamrul Huda, acting registrar of CU said, “We talked to the Pro-VC about this issue. A new constriction building is going on for Art faculty. After completing this building, this crisis will be solved.
