Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs yesterday recommended immediate compensation to each family of the Langdu victims by assessing the extent of losses in the incident that took place in Longdu upazila of Rangamati district on July 2, reports BSS.
The committee suggested the land ministry to take immediate steps for further amendment to the 1958 Act regarding acquiring of land in the hilly areas like the plain land, an official release said.
The recommendation was made at the 25th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman R. A. M. Obaidul Moktadir Chowdhuryin the chair.
Committee members, state minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Bir Bahadur, Kujendra Lal Tripura and MA Awal attended it.
The meeting was discussed the recent landslides in the three hill districts.
The committee recommended the ministry to take necessary initiatives to identify the real cause of hill collapse and to stop the cutting of hills.
At the beginning of the meeting, the committee members conveyed their deep sympathies to the family members of those who died and injured in the incident that happened in Longadu upazila of Rangamati and landslides in three hill districts.
Additional secretary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, senior officials of the Ministry and Parliament Secretariat were present in the meeting.
