Rain cripples life in Dhaka again
The road in front of Jatrabari Police Station underneath the Hanif flyover developed giant potholes during the construction of the flyover. In rainy season, the area becomes hellish for pedestrians and motorists as it remains inundated most of the times. Heavy overnight rains crippled the life in Dhaka as most of the roads, lanes and bylanes of different parts of the capital went under ankle to knee-deep water, causing immense hardship to the commuters and city dwellers, reports UNB.

The Met Office recorded 103 millimeter rainfall in the last 24 hours starting from 6:00 am Tuesday to 6:00 am Wednesday.

The incessant rains lashed Dhaka leading to water-logging in many parts of the city. The worst affected areas include Mirpur 1, Dhanmondhi 27, Kolabagn, Mirpur-10, Kazipara, Rokeya Sarani, Bijoysharani, Farmgate and Karwan Bazar kitchen market, Moghbazar, Mouchak, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Kakrail, Khilgaon, Rampura, Motijheel, Arambagh, Fakirapul.

Vehicles were seen stranded for hours in unprecedented traffic jams.

Hundred of commuters especially office and school goers are gathering terrible experience in reaching their destinations this morning due to unending traffic triggered by the torrential rains.

Many of them were seen wading through ankle to knee-deep water on the roads and bylanes.

The Met office sources also said that the rain may continue till Thursday.

Intermittent showers since Tuesday morning also disrupted the normal life in the capital and most parts of the country.

Commuters in the capital suffered immensely as important city streets went under water in Old Dhaka, Mauchak, Malibagh, Shatinagar, Mirpur, Razarbagh and some other areas causing serious traffic congestions, said victims.

The situation turned worse in areas like Rampura, Chowdhurypara and Mauchak where roads construction work under different development projects were underway, said Laila, a commuter from Malibagh.

Low-income people, especially the day labourers, suffered much as rain disrupted their normal pace of life.
