Five people were killed in road accidents in three districts yesterday and on Tuesday.
In Munshiganj, two people were killed and 10 others injured as a bus overturned and fell into a roadside ditch at Keotchira in Sreenagar upazila of the district on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Achia Khatun, 55, hailed from Holdia village in Lauhojong upazila and Shafiqul Islam, 32, from Kurigram.
Hasara Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Golam Morshed Talukder said a Mawa-bound bus of Gangchil Paribahan from Dhaka skidded off of the highway and fell into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering at 10:00 pm, killing two passengers on the spot and injuring 10 others. The injured were admitted to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex.
Sreenagar Fire Service Warehouse inspector Mohammad Sohel Rana said some 50 passengers have somehow managed to come out from the bus before it drowned in the ditch.
“After a 45-minute effort, fire service men rescued a passenger who got stuck in the bus”, he added.
Immediately after the accident, another bus coming from Dhaka fell into ditch at the same place. Fortunately, none was reportedly injured in the accident.
In Faridpur, a sexagenarian man was crushed under the wheels of a speedy train at Shovarampur village under Sadar upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Munnu Khan, 75, Son of Momin Khan of Bangalkanda village under Nagarkanda upazila of the district. Sub-Inspector (SI) Mirajur Rahman of Kotwali police station confirmed the accident and death.
In Magura, two people, including a teenage girl, were killed as a bus hit a motorbike in front of Arpara Degree College on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased were identified as Atik Munshi, 35, son of Shariful Munshi, a resident of Naghona village of the upazila and his sister-in-law Sathi Khatun, 17, daughter of Kabir Hossain of Bagharpar in Jessore district.
Additional Superintendent of Police Tarikul Islam said when a bus hit the motorbike from the opposite direction at about 11 am, leaving two bike riders dead on the spot.
A case was filed in this connection.
