Two killed in road accident

GOPALGANJ: Two people were killed and four others

injured as a bus hit an auto rickshaw in Khanderpar area on the Maksudpur- Rajpat road under Maksudpur upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.

The deceased are Shamsu Khan, 75 and Eklin Miah, 18, residents of the same area.

Officer-in-Charge of Maksudpur Thana Azizur Rahman said the accident occurred when a mini bus hit the battery-run auto rickshaw in the area at about 10 am, leaving six passengers of the auto rickshaw injured.

The injured were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where two succumbed to their injuries.

Bogra girl dies as truck crashes into house

Bogra: A 12-year-old schoolgirl was crushed in her sleep after a truck veered off the road and ploughed her house on Bogra-Natore highway at Omarpur in Nandigram upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Rita Khatun, 12, daughter of Raju Ahmed and class-III student of Hatua Government Primary School. Quoting locals, Nandigram Police Station officer-in-charge Abdur Razzak said that the driver of the truck lost control over the steering and ploughed the house, killing the girl who was asleep inside it around 1:00 am.

On information, police rushed to the spot and seized the truck. However, its driver and helper managed to flee the spot.

Criminal held with arms, ammo

Jhenaidah: A miscreant was arrested with several firearms and bullets at North Kastosagra village of Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila on Sunday morning, reports UNB.

The arrestee was identified as Monirul Islam, 30, son of Mohiuddin, a resident of Kastosagra village of Sadar Upazila. Tipped-off, Jhenaidah Sadar Police conducted a drive at Kastosagra village and arrested Monirul Islam from his house, said Emdadul Hoque Sheikh, Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station. Police also recovered 3 rounds of bullets and many firearms from his house.

Minor boy electrocuted   

Magura: An 11-year-old boy died after being electrocuted during holding his Sunnat-e-Khatna programme at Dighi village under Shalikha upazila in the district on Sunday, reports UNB.

The deceased is identified as Faruk Hossain, son of Fayez Hossian of the village and class-V student of Dighi Government Primary School. Farukh received serious injuries when he was connecting an electric plug during his Sunnat-e-Khatna event, said Dr Muktadir Rahman, a residential doctor of Magura Sadar Hospital, quoting family sources.

Duty-doctor declared Farukh dead after he was admitted to the hospital, he added.

58 arrested in Dinajpur

DINAJPUR: Police, in special drives from Sunday night to this morning, arrested 58 persons including 27 drug traders and recovered 1,200 liters of locally made liquor, 118 bottles of Phensidyl syrup, 518 pieces of Yaba tablets and 3.5-kg of Ganja from nine upazilas of the district, reports BSS.

Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district.

During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested 32 persons including 27 drug traders with 1,200 liters of locally made liquor, 118 bottles of Phensidyl syrup, 518 pieces of Yaba tablets and 3.5-kg of Ganja, Khansama Thana police arrested four, Kaharole Thana police two, Hakimpur Thana police arrested six, Birampur police arrested three, Ghoraghat police arrested two, Birganj Thana police arrested two, Phulbari Thana police arrested three and Chirirbandar Thana police arrested four persons.
