Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal failed to live up to the expectation in his first match for the Essex in the NatWest T20 Blast tournament as his side tasted a seven-wicket defeat to Kent on Sunday at Kent County Cricket Ground, Beckenham.
Tamim scored just run-a-ball-seven runs with a six after coming to open the innings. However thanks to his fellow opener Varun Chopra’s 47 and skipper Ryan Ten Doeschate’s 18 ball-38, Essex piled up 166 for eight.
Kent opener Daniel Bell-Drummond led the chase with a marauding 55 ball-90 not out as his side overhauled the target in just 18.3 overs, losing three wickets. Tamim’s next match will be against Somerset when Essex will face off them at their home ground on Thursday.
It’s the second time that Tamim is playing in any English County club. Six years ago, he played for Nottinghamshire in the same tournament.
Tamim is contracted to play eight matches for Essex after the County team showed their interest to him following his epic performance in the ICC Champions Trophy. Tamim was the third highest scorer in that tournament with 293 runs in four matches.
