Car driver beaten dead in Ctg
A car driver was beaten to death in CRB (Central Railway Building) area under Kotwali police station in the port city Chittagong early Monday following a dispute over drug.
The deceased was identified as Monir Hossain, 45, son of Shamsul Islam, hailed from Laxmipur district.
Kotwali police station sub-inspector Enamul said a clash ensued between two local groups over drug behind the campus of Open University in the area on Sunday night.
On information, a team of police rushed in, recovered the body and sent it to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge Jasim Uddin.
Quoting locals, the SI said Monir was beaten to death by a heavy object. Meanwhile, a man, Shafik, was detained in this connection, said the OC adding that they will investigate into the killing incident.
Man found dead in Gazipur
Police recovered the body of a man from an auto rickshaw garage in Nawjur area of Gazipur city yesterday.
He was identified as Hazrat Ali, 65, son of late Tasan Ullah of Itahata area of the city.
Sub-inspector of Joydebpur police station Al-Amin said, Hazrat Ali was operating the garage with others two of his employees.
He went for sleep in the garage at night on Sunday. An auto-rickshaw driver named Alam found Hazrat’s body was hanging with the ceiling of the garage while he (Alam) came to pick his auto-rickshaw yesterday.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
One goes missing as boat sinks
A trader went missing as a boat capsized in Turag River on Monday after being hit by a launch at Diabari of Kaundia area in Savar.
The missing man is identified as Shawkat Hossain, 27, son of Abdul Halim of the area.
Sub-inspector Jamal Hossain of Aminbazar Police Outpost said Shawkat along with some other passengers were crossing the Turag River by a small boat (dingy) which sank on the river as a launch Ishrat-1 hit it around 10:00 am. Five of the boat passengers managed to swim ashore while Shawkat remained missing. The divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence were searching for the missing trader, he said.
8 ‘robbers’ held in Keraniganj
Police, in a drive, have arrested eight suspected robbers in South Keraniganj of Dhaka early Monday.
Firearms were also recovered from the arrestees' possession, said police. However, identities of the arrestees could not be known immediately.
Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj Police Station, will brief reporters in this regard, sources said.
Six ‘yaba dealers’ arrested
Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) carried out a raid in the capital’s Elephant Road, Kalabagan and West Rajabazar areas and arrested six alleged drug dealers, including two married couples, and recovered 50,000 pieces of yaba tablets and Tk 2.80 lakh from their possessions.
The arrestees are -Rabiul Islam, 47, his wife Asma Ahmed alias Daliya, Monwara Begum, 60, Shamim Ahmed, 37, his wife Shapna Begum, 30, and Mahmuda Rani, 46.
A special team of Dhaka Metro sub-region under the DNC carried out the simultaneous drives from 9am that continued till 2pm.
3 held with VoIP equipment
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members in a drive arrested three people along with huge illegal VoIP equipment from different parts of the the port city Chittagong early Saturday.
Tipped off, a RAB team conducted drives in Fatikchhari upazila of the district and Lalkhan Bazar and Hamjarbag areas of the port city from Friday night to early Saturday.
During the drive, the elite force members arrested Salahuddin, 33, Imon, 21, and Soton, 23, and recovered huge VoIP equipment and SIMs of different mobile phone operators from their possessions.
