A man was killed early yesterday at railway slum of city’s CRB area allegedly by his rival group over illegal electricity connection at the slum.
The deceased was identified as driver Monir Hossain, 45 son of Shamsul Haque, hailing from Laxmipur district. Police arrested a man Md Shafiq, 42, over the incident.
Police said the railway CRB slum is illegal one. Monir and Shafiq have business of illegal electricity connection in the slum. They used to give the slum dwellers electricity connection. Shafiq along with his three-four cohorts killed Monir, said Md Jashim Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kowtali Police Station.
“Monir and Shafiq both were living at CRB occupying the land of railway. Both gave illegal power connection to the slum dwellers illegally. Over the dispute Monir was killed by his rival. We have arrested the main suspect over the incident,” said the OC. Mentionable, there are many illegal settlements including Jamtal Slum and Boiler Colony were built surrounding at railway East Zone headquarters at CRB.
