The mayor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC), Prof. MA Mannan, resumed office yesterday after three days of suspension. He rejoined the mayor’s post around 1pm, after the High Court stayed the suspension order for three months on Sunday.
On Thursday, the LGRD ministry had suspended Mannan for the third time because of a graft case against him.
On receiving information, several leaders and activists of the BNP and its front organisations gathered in front of the city corporation building. BNP-backed GCC councillors welcomed the mayor with flowers.
Later, Mannan told reporters in his office at Nagar Bhaban in Gazipur town: “I have returned to my office after winning a legal battle. Since the city has less than a year left before the election (civic), urgent projects, including those of roads and drainage, will be completed quickly.”
“I want to work for the city dwellers as they have chosen me to work for them,” he said.
