Physically challenged people will soon have some special complexes and resource centres so they can get necessary supports for integrating into normal activities of daily life.“A 15-storey Jatiya Protibondhi Complex is now under construction in the Capital’s Mirpur area, which would provide a wide-range of support to the physically challenged people for their proper rehabilitation, with empowering self-esteem,” Social Welfare Secretary M Zillar Rahman told BSS.
The complex will have dormitory, auditorium, outpatient department (OPD), physiotherapy center, shelter home, daycare center and special school for autistic and children requiring special attention.
Construction of an international standard sports complex in Savar is also going on. The complex will have rehabilitation centre, football and cricket fields, recreation zone, swimming pool, multipurpose gymnasium, mosque, staff residence, guest-house and hostel for physically challenged people. “We also have a plan for establishing resource centre for the physically challenged people at each divisional headquarters,” Rahman said. He said more jobs for the people with disability would also be created through various initiatives along with expanding their quota in different public services.
