KHULNA: The Khulna City Corporation (KCC) authorities has fixed 200 spots in the City for slaughtering sacrificial animals and requested the citizens to use those places during the ensuing the holy Eid-ul-Azha, reports BSS.
The decision was made at a meeting of KCC on Wednesday at Shaheed Altaf auditorium with chairman of environment development standing committee (EDSC) of KCC and ward councilor S M Khurshid Ahmed Tona was in the chair. Mayor of KCC Moniruzzaman Mony attended the meeting as chief guest.
Among others, Citizen and Religious leaders (Imam), teachers, Councilors and Senior Officers of KCC was present at the meeting.
“Initially 200 spots have been fixed in the KCC area for slaughtering sacrificial animals. The number may rise, but no one will be forced to use those fixed spot,” said Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, senior veterinary surgeon of KCC on Wednesday.
A total of 400 slaughterers from different Madrasas will be engaged for slaughtering at the spots on Eid day, he said adding that at least 190 butchers, 320 rickshaw vans will assist to prepare meat and deliver to citizens’ residences. “There will be a campaign seven days before the Eid-ul-Azha to raise awareness on slaughtering sacrificial animals in the designated spots and elsewhere in the city.
The KCC councilors will also join the campaign," he said adding that Religious leaders of all mosques will mention this during 'Khutba' at Zumma prayer before Eid.
The designated slaughtering grounds will have butchers, cleaning staff as well as an 'Imam' to conduct the slaughtering of sacrificial animals on Eid day. Chairman of EDSC of KCC S M Khurshid Ahmed Tona said that, as per the direction of Local Government Division we are taking preparation for slaughtering sacrificial animals at all fixed spots at 31 wards in KCC.
KCC staffs will be deployed for seven days from Eid ul Azha for cleaning animals' garbage for ensuring environment friendly atmosphere in the city, he said. The meeting also requested different community leaders, public representatives and civil society leaders for creating awareness and motivate the citizens to slaughter animals on KCC chosen places, he said.
The step was taken to keep the city clean and useable for the city dwellers he said adding that at least 6,000 kgs bleaching powder will be bought for cleaning animal garbage to make pollution free Khulna city.
