Tk 5,286.91cr Kuril-Balu River canal project inaugurated

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman yesterday inaugurated a Tk 5,286.91 crore project for mitigating waterlogging in a number of areas in Dhaka north city, reports BSS.

The 13.643-kilometer long and 100-feet wide canal project will connect city’s Kuril area with the Balu River.

The RAJUK will implement the drainage project by August 2018 through 24 Engineer Construction Brigade of Bangladesh Army.

RAJUK Chief Engineer (Implementation) Raihanul Ferdous, Project Director Md Nurul Islam, Project Manager Md Hossain, Project Director Lt. Col Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Project Office Major Nur Md Siddiq Selim and other senior officials, were present.

Director Nurul Islam said the ECNEC approved the project on September 22 in 2015 and a total of 90.1548 acres of land costing Taka 4,384.18 crore have already been acquired for the purpose.

The Dhaka district administration is distributing money as compensation among the people affected by the land acquisition, he added. Nurul said the project included 13.843-kilometer canal, 13- kilometer service road, 39-kilometer walkway, four U-loop, 13 arch bridges on the canal, four expressway foot-over bridges, fencing, one pump house, 2,270 street lights and 12 bus stoppages.
