Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal leaves Dhaka today to play for the English County club Essex in which he is featured for nine matches to play in the T20 Blast tournament.
The premier English domestic T20 tournament is scheduled to kick-off today. Following his epic performance in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy, Tamim was offered to play for the Essex.
Tamim made 293 runs with a century and two half-centuries in four matches in the tournament at a staggering average of 74.
It is the second time that the left hand opener is playing in any English County club. In 2012 he represented Nottinghamshire for five matches.
“He was granted the NOC and any time he will fly for England,” said CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
England soil has always been benevolent to Tamim. He never failed to make scores in the condition that is always considered tough for subcontinent player. In his first tour in England in 2010, he hammered back-to-back centuries in Lords and Old Trafford in a sheer difficult condition against England. He was also highly successful in his second tour in England during the Champions Trophy.
Still Tamim focused on adding some more shots in his repertoire before leaving the country for Essex. He was seen to practice hook and pull shot against short deliveries.
Tamim however will return to the country in August before the Test series against Australia.
