Banani ‘birthday rape’

‘Rapist’ Ivan held in N’ganj

UNB

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the accused in another Banani girl rape case from Majhrail area of Chashara in Narayanganj city yesterday afternoon, reports UNB.

Additional Superintendent of Police Shakil Ahmed, also operational officer of RAB-11, said on secret information a team of elite force conducted a drive at the area and arrested Bahauddin Ivan around 4:30pm.

Earlier, a case was filed against Ivan, 28, son of Borhanuddin, a businessman, for reportedly violating a young girl after inviting her to his 'birthday party' at a house in the city's Banani area on Tuesday.

Abdul Matin, an inspector (investigation) of Banani Police Station, said the victim filed the case with the police station on Wednesday.

According to the first information report (FIR), "The victim met Ivan on Facebook 11 months back and both have been in an affair since then. On Tuesday night, Ivan invited the girl to his birthday party at his Banani residence saying to introduce her with his mother.

“When the girl reached Ivan’s house around 10:30 pm, she found neither any birthday party arrangement nor any guest at the house. At one stage, Ivan served her dinner and some drugs. When the girl refused to take it, Ivan said it’s not harmful. Later, Ivan violated the girl after confining her to his residence,” the FIR report adds.

It further says, “Ivan had earlier violated the girl with a promise to marry her.”

Following the incident, the victim filed a case against Ivan, already a father of two children, said police. They said the victim was sent to victim support centre for medical test.

This follows the sensational revelations that last March 28, two university girls were raped at Raintree Hotel in the city’s Gulshan area. One of the rape victims, filed a case with Banani Police Station on May 6 accusing five people—Shafat, 26, and Nayeem, 30, Shadman 24, Billal, 26, and his bodyguard Rahmat Ali. All the accused are now in jail as charges pressed against them in the case.
