DSE transactions increase by 68.33pc in FY17

Transactions in the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) increased by 68.33 per cent year-on-year with a total turnover of Tk 1,80,522.20 crore in fiscal year 2016-17 (FY17) and a daily average turnover Tk 755.32 crore which was the highest transactions in the last five years, reports BSS.

In the fiscal year 2015-16 (FY16), total turnover was Tk 1,07,246.06 crore with a daily average turnover of Tk 434.19 crore, according to an statement issued by DSE in capital yesterday.

In FY17, DSE also witnessed a successful fiscal for foreign investment by generating Tk 10,009.37 crore which was 23.82 per cent or Tk 1925.45 crore up than the previous fiscal year.

Foreign investors passed the fiscal by keeping their attention on purchasing shares as they purchased Tk 6138.91 crore securities during the period while 3,870.45 securities selling.

In FY17, the broader index DSEX finished the fiscal with 1148.47 points or 25.48 up at 5656.05.

The DSES for Shariah-based companies and DS30 for the blue chip scrips also followed the upward trend with 185.91 points or 16.74 per cent up at 1296.74 and 312.98 points or 17.67 per cent up at 2,083.80 respectively.

DSE played a vital role to collect revenue for the government treasury by depositing Tk 282.23 crore in the last fiscal which was 45.98 per cent higher than the previous fiscal.

In FY17, Engineering sectors topped the turnover list followed by banks, pharmaceutical and chemical, textiles and fuel and power sectors.

Engineering sector generated a total of Tk 27,426.23 crore or 15.19 per cent of the total turnover in the last fiscal while the other four sectors were generated Tk 24,746.52 crore or 13.71 per ent, Tk 22901.94 crore or 12.69 per cent, Tk 21,947.76 crore or 12.16 per cent and Tk 20,804.07 crore or 11.52 per cent turnover respectively.

Like other stock markets in the world, DSE is also modernising its transactions procedures day by day. In line of the activities, DSE introduced a mobile app named DSE-Mobile App on March 9, 2016 for providing modern services its clients.

From that time, a total of 15,048 people used the app till FY17 for their share transactions.
