German musician meets DU VC

Simon Kierspel, a German musician, yesterday paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique at the latter's office on the campus.

Assistant Professor of DU Music Department Sayeem Rana was present at the meeting, said a press release here.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues including the possibilities of forming an orchestra with the students of Dhaka University.

The German musician expressed his willingness to provide technical and logistics supports to DU in this regard, the release added.

RU celebrates 64th founding anniversary

RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi University (RU) here yesterday celebrated its 64th founding anniversary in a befitting manner. The day's programmes began with recitation of national anthem and hoisting of national flag, university flag and hall flags in front of administrative building at 10 am.

Afterwards, RU Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan declared opening of the programme releasing pigeons and colourful balloons. The VC also planted saplings on the occasion.

Marking the day, teachers, officers and students brought out a procession that paraded different roads of the campus. The university authority also organised a discussion at senate building with the VC in the chair. At the discussion, Prof Rahman said students and teachers of the university are conscious of resisting all injustices in the national stage as well as in local stage. Former VC Prof Sayedur Rahman Khan, President of Rajshahi University Teachers' Association Prof Nazrul Islam, Zoology Department Professor Ananda Kumar Shaha and Geography and Environmental Science Department Prof Rakib Ahmmed addressed the meeting, among others.

DU launches Master of Accountancy in Taxation programme

Accounting & Information Systems (AIS) department of Dhaka University (DU) has recently launched a new academic programme titled ‘Master of Accountancy in Taxation’.

Under the two-year long programme, students will be provided knowledge about taxation system, financial planner and tax consultancy, said programme director Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman at a press conference at Sagor-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital on Thursday. DU AIS department and Capital Market Journalist Forum (CMJF) jointly organised the press conference.
