Prof Dr Rajib Humayun, founding chairman of Linguistics Department of Dhaka University, died at a hospital in the capital early Wednesday. He was 67, reports BSS.
BLProf Humayan breathed his last at Apollo Hospital around 1am, sources at the DU authorities said. The first namaz-e-janaza of Humayan was held at the central mosque of the DU after Zohr prayers.
DU Vice-chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, Pro-Vice chancellor (administration) Prof Akhtaruzzaman, teachers and students took part in the janaza.
He was buried at Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in Mirpur of Dhaka on completion of his second namaz-e-janaza after Asr prayer.
Humayun joined the department of Bangla in the University of Dhaka as an associate Professor in 1985.
