Smart card distribution in Khulna from July 18

The distribution of machine-readable smart national identity (NID) cards will begin in Khulna on July 18, reports BSS.

Election Commissioners (EC) Kobita Khanom and Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury will inaugurate the distribution programme at Officers Club in Khulan on July 18, Ashiqur Rahman, communication officer of EC secretariat, told BSS.

He said EC Kobita Khanom and EC Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury will inaugurate the smart ID cards distribution programme. Besides, the smart cards would also be distributed in Rangpur soon.

The machine-readable smart cards will prevent its forgery. For being machine readable, the smart cards have additional safety measures against forgery.

To maintain security of the smart cards, 25 international certifications and standards have been ensured.
