Ex-LGED engineer gets 10 yrs for graft

A court in Comilla on Wednesday sentenced a former executive engineer of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) to 10 years’ imprisonment in a graft case, reports UNB from Comilla.

The convict is Harunur Rashid, son of Belayet Hossain of Charbijli village of Muladi upazila in Barisal.

Md Ismail Hossain, Judge of the Special Judges Court, also fined him Tk 1 lakh.

Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Comilla Abul Kalam Azad said Harunur Rashid embezzled Tk 39 lakh from LGED laboratory building materials in 2013.

Later, Deputy Commissioner of ACC (Dhaka) Jahangir Alam filed a case with Comilla Kotwali Police Station against him.
