3 to die for killing auto-rickshaw driver in Gazipur

A Gazipur court on Wednesday sentenced three people, including two brothers, to death penalty for killing an auto-rickshaw driver at Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur in 2013.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each.
The Judge of Gazipur District and Sessions Judges Court AKM Enamul Haque handed down the verdict. The court also sentenced them for 10 years imprisonment each in another section of the case. Every convict was also fined Tk 5,000 in the section as well, in default; they have to suffer three months in jail.
The death-row convicts were identified as Mehedi Hassan alias Babu, son of Abdur Rahman of Mouchak area under Kaliakoir upazila of the district, Mohammed Alamgir Hossain, and Delowar Hossain, sons of late Amir Hamza alias Omar Ali of Jathalia area of the same upazila.
Alamgir and Mehedi were present in the court during the announcement of the judgment while Delowar is on the run.
According to the court sources, Haider Ali, hailed from Lalmonirhat, went missing after he had gone out with his rented auto-rickshaw on December 26, 2013.
Police recovered his body from Ratanpur area of Kaliakoir on the following day.
Later, Haider Alis elder brother Shafikul Islam filed a murder case with Kaliakoir police station in this connection. The investigation officer of the case and also inspector of Dhaka CID Nazmul Haque submitted the charge sheet against the three accused.
After the hearing and examining of 15 witnesses, the court handed down the verdict on Wednesday.
The public prosecutor (PP) Mohammed Hariz Uddin was the lawyer for the state while Mohammed Labib Uddin Siddique and Wahiduzzaman Akon were the lawyer for the defendants.
