University Grants Commission (UGC) yesterday temporarily suspended one of its assistant secretaries MA Wares on the allegation of stealing money from a duty free shop at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport recently.
The Commission thinks that the recent news report ‘one UGC officer has been caught red handed for stealing money from a duty free shop at the airport’ has severely tarnished the image of the UGC, a press release said yesterday.
Under such a situation, the Commission has temporarily suspended assistant secretary (Protocol and Liaison) MA Wares for tarnishing the image of UGC.
The Commission has also formed a probe committee headed by its convener and UGC member Prof Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah. The other probe committee members are UGC members Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Dr Akhtar Hossain and Prof Dr M Shah Nowaz Ali and Director, IMCT Division Khandaker Hamidur Rahman.
