‘Robber ring leader’ held with 8 arms in Ctg

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday arrested a ‘robber ring leader’ of costal area of Bay of Bengal along with eight firearms, 15 round of bullets, 2000 pieces of contraband yaba tablets, huge rocket players, 26 mobile sets and Tk16.39 lakh from city’s Green View Residential Area under Panchlaish Police Station.

 The arrestee was identified as Md Abul Kalam alias Kalam Chowdhury alias dacoit Kalam, 55, son of Mahe Alam of Hatiya of Noakhali District.

RAB said in a press briefing at its Chandagaon Office yesterday Kalam is a ring leader of pirate group ‘Kalam Bahini’. The pirate group is involved with robbery, kidnapping, killing, extortion and rape at east coastal area of Bay of Bengal in Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur and Bhola.

Kalam is accused in 11 cases, including two murder cases, three arms cases, four robbery cases, and one theft case at Hatiya Police Station of Naokhali and Manpura Police Station of Bhola district.

In a joint drive RAB-7 Chittagong and RAB-11 Narayanganj arrested the robber ring leader after one month of frantic effort, said Major Ashek Billah, Co-Commander of RAB-11 in the press briefing while Lt Commander Ashekur Rahman of RAB-7 was present.
