‘JMB man’ held in Bholahat

Detectives arrested an alleged member of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Bholahat upazila of the district on Tuesday night.
The arrestee is Royel, 35, of Chama Mushoribhuja village in the upazila.
Tipped off, a team of Detective Branch of police conducted a drive at Royel’s house around 9:30 pm and arrested him, said district DB Officer-in-charge Mahbub Alam.
Later, a court sent him to jail yesterday when the law enforcers produced him before it.
Royel is accused in nine cases filed with Bholahat and Nachole police stations, Mahbub said.

Night guard killed in Naogaon
Naogaon: A night guard of a local madrasah was stabbed to death by a gang of miscreants at Valain in Manda upazila of the district on Monday night, reports UNB.
Police said the miscreants swooped on Mansur Rahman, 38, of Valain village, when he was on duty at the madrasah premises around 11 pm, leaving him severely injured.
Mansur was taken to a local hospital. Later, doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
However, Mansur succumbed to his injuries while being moved to RMCH, said Officer-in-charge of Manda Police Station Anisur Rahman.
The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy, said the OC. A case was filed in this connection.

Robber held in Sundarbans
BARGUNA: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a sea robber from Chandpai range of Sundarbans in the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The identity of the man could not be known immediately.
RAB personnel arrested the robber with one of his associate, said Major Adnan of RAB-8.
RAB men also recovered four guns, one LG and 63 rounds of bullet from their position, he added.

Accident kills truck helper 
NATORE: A truck helper was killed and driver of the vehicle injured in a road accident in Lathuria area on Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway under Boraigram upazila early yesterday, reports BSS.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The accident occurred around 6.30am when the speedy truck was trying to overtake another one. The truck driver lost control over the steering and struck another truck from behind, leaving its helper dead on the spot and driver injured, said Sub-Inspector of Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway police Tariqul Islam.
Natore fire service officials and police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
The injured driver was admitted to a local hospital, police said.

Man dies from snakebite
Magura:  A man died from snakebite at Tupipara villag in Sreepur upazila on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
Locals said a venomous snake bit Shahidul Islam, 40, son of Malek Shikdar, a resident of the village when he went outside from his home following nature’s call.
Later, he died on the way to a local hospital.

34 arrested in Dinajpur
DINAJPUR: Police, in special drives from Tuesday night to yesterday morning, arrested 34 persons including three activist of Jamaat-e-Islami, two drug traders and recovered 350 bottles of Phensidyl syrup from 10 upazilas of the district, reports BSS.
Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district. During the drives, Dinajpur Sadar police arrested 11 persons, Khansama police arrested four, Kaharole police two, Hakimpur police arrested two drug traders with 350 bottles of Phensidyl syrup.
In another drives, Birampur police arrested two, Biral police three, Birganj  police arrested three, Bochaganj police arrested two, Chirirbandar police arrested three activist of Jamaat and Phulbari police arrested two persons.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
The arrested people were sent to jail.

Massive T-Aman cultivation programme in Netrakona

NETRAKONA: A massive Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) cultivation programme has been undertaken here by District Agriculture Extension Department (DAE) during this current Aman season, reports BSS.
DAE office sources said, under the programme, a total of 1,40,135 hectares of land would be brought under T-Aman cultivation in ten upazilas of the district with a target for producing 3.50 lakhs tones of rice.
Of the total land, 750 hectares of land would be brought under hybrid variety of the paddy, 97,145 hectares of land under high yielding variety (HYV) and 42,240 hectares of land under local variety. Deputy Director of the DAE Bilash Chandra Paul said farmers of the district have started passing their busy times for setting up seed beds for raising T-Aman seedlings on the seed beds.
DAE of Netrakona has fixed a target to set up the seed beds on 9,330 hectares of land in the district, he said adding that the Aman cultivators setup seed beds on 2,500 hectares of land.
Paul informed that meanwhile Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) has sold 681 tonnes of improved quality of T-Aman seeds among the cultivators at fair prices following the instruction of the government.
