A garment worker was crushed under the wheels of a train while trying to save a child playing on the rail tracks at Sainik Club in the city’s Banani yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Md Sumon, 40, son of late Abdul Quddus of Mymensing. Quoting witnesses police said Sumon saw a child, 8, playing on the rail tracks when a Dhaka bound train was approaching at about 3:30 pm. As Sumon jumped onto the rail track to save the child the train hit him, leaving him injured. Critically injured Sumon was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at about 4:45 pm, said Sub-inspector Rafiqul Isla of Kamalapur GRP thana. However, the child remained unhurt. The body was kept at DMCH morgue for postmortem.
