Auto-drivers stage demo in Rangpur

Passengers on different highways in the city suffered a lot as Auto –driver Shramik Kalyan Samiti an organisation of CNG-run auto-rickshaws drivers, brought out rally and staged demonstration yesterday protesting against the ban on running of auto-rickshaws on highways.   Later they formed a human chain in front of City Corporation. Leaders of the association said the ban would render thousands of drivers jobless and would create an adverse impact on the country’s economy. They alleged that some influential people in the name of different organisations and police forcibly collected toll from them and if they refused to pay it they used to snatch key of the auto-rickshaw. The auto drivers also demanded permanent auto stand for them. The auto drivers announced not to ply their vehicles until demand is met.
