Rangpur Mayor assaulted

Rangpur City Corporation Mayor Shorfuddin Ahmed was assaulted by three people in front of his house in the city yesterday.

One of the assailants, named Saddam Hossain, was caught by local people and handed over to the police.

Eyewitnesses said, Shorfuddin was having a cup of tea in a tea stall near his home at around 5 pm. A group of three people arrived there on a motorbike. Saddam, one of the three people, told the mayor that his uncle was sick and the mayor has to go visit him.

The mayor refused to go, all of a sudden, Saddam kicked Mayor Shorfuddin on the chest. As the mayor fell down, the other two also started beating him. As locals gathered there, the three tried to flee the scene. While two of them managed to get away, Saddam was caught by locals. Mayor Shorfuddin claimed that the attack on him was conducted due to political reasons. He filed a case against Saddam and two others with Goplai Police Station in Rangpur.
