Body recovered from ditch
Police recovered the body of a school student from a ditch in Shafipur Ansar Academy area of Gazipur on Sunday afternoon after of his missing.
The victim was identified as Nahid Hossin, 14, a student of class eight of Jenith P.L. Kintergarden and High School at Purba Chandra Boardmill area of Kaliakoir upazila in the district. OC of Kaliakoir police station Mohammed Abdul Motaleb Mia said Nahid went out from his home on Saturday noon and remained missing. Locals found his body from ditch in Ansar Academy area and informed the police. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical college Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police said that there are several injury marks at different parts of deceased body.
US embassy holiday Tuesday
The US Embassy in Dhaka including its consular section will remain closed on Tuesday in observance of US Independence Day, says a press release.
The American Center with the Archer K Blood American Center Library and the Education USA Student Advising Center will also remain closed on the day. Emergency services for American citizens will, however, be available through duty officer (call 880-2-5566-2000), said a press release on Sunday.
Light tremor shakes Sylhet
A light earthquake, measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale, shook Sylhet and its adjacent regions at 11:27 am yesterday.
The epicenter of the tremor was in Manipur State of India, nearly 436 kilometers East-North-East of Bangladesh Metrological Department (BMD) Seismic Centre at Agargaon in Dhaka, said Ruhul Kuddus, a BMD meteorologist. The earthquake might hit some parts of Comilla and Moulvibazar districts as well, Kuddus added while talking to UNB. However, there was no immediate report of any damage or casualty till filing of the report at 12:30 pm.
Team visits Uari-Boteshwar
A delegation of Beraid Gonopathagar visited Uari-Boteshwar and Birthplace of Bhai Girish Chandra Sen two archaeological sites of Narshingdi on Friday, says a press release.
Emdad Hossain Bhuiyan, president of Beraid Gonopathagar led the team. Other members are Munira Khatun, Syed Lutfor Rahman, Johirul Islam, Abdul Hai, Habibur Rahman, Shahidul Islam, Shaon Mia, Mahid Mustafiz, Rakib Hassan and Ishtiaque Ahmed.
During the visit at Uari-Boteshwar, Habibulla Pathan, a local armature antic collector briefed about 2500 years old civilisation to delegation members. In Panchdona, another local armature antic collector Faisal Ahmed briefed about life and works of Bhai Girish Chandra Sen, the first translator of the Holy Quaran in Bangla.
3 drug peddlers arrested
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in an overnight drive arrested three alleged drug peddlers with 974 bottles of phensidyl and seized a truck in bypass area under Shahmukhdum Police Station in Rajshahi city.
The arrested were identified as Ramjan Ali, Arif Hossain, and Alal Uddin. On a secret tip-off, RAB halted the truck and recovered 974 bottles of phensidyl, 22 yaba tablets and Tk a 9,120 RAB officials said yesterday.
